Leaving Tesla

I left Tesla with no real plan.

I had a deep desire to start my own business…

But I wasn’t fully committed just yet.

I interviewed with a few companies…

And one afternoon…

I was walking out of a lunch meeting with a CEO in New York City after discussing leading his sales organization…

And I had this visceral experience which is painted in my memory.

There was a turning in my stomach…

An unforgettable wrenching feeling…

And I heard a voice from within screaming out…

“Not this!”

The next day…

I went to a Barnes & Noble near my house to consider my options.

After hours of just sitting there and weighing the pros and cons…

I got frustrated by indecisiveness.

So…

I surrendered.

I let go.

I decided to let the universe tell me what was next.

I stopped trying to force myself into a decision…

And I started listening.

A few days later…

A former colleague from Tesla reached out and asked me for some help.

I started working with her and her team.

This opportunity led to another one with a larger company as a consultant.

That then led to opportunities to provide more consulting services, offer keynotes, and coach professionals from other companies.

Then other people I was connecting with through LinkedIn also needed my help.

One thing led to another…

And I built my business.

6 years later, I’ve found more success as a speaker and coach than I ever had in my corporate life.

But if I kept trying to control things…

None of this would have happened.

It was only after I surrendered…

That opportunities started surfacing.

So whenever you’re feeling stuck…

Feeling caught in indecisiveness…

Stop trying to control things…

And surrender.

I don’t mean surrender as in “give up”…

I mean surrender as in…

Let go.

Listen.

When your mind is not clouded by fears, desires, and overthinking…

The right decision becomes clear to you.

Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to let go)
