President Theodore Roosevelt once said…
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”
That’s sort of true.
Here’s what I mean.
There are healthy comparisons…
And unhealthy comparisons.
So I think a truer statement is…
Envy is the thief of joy.
Oftentimes subconsciously…
You’re comparing yourself with others.
Comparing your levels of happiness…
Achievements…
And success.
You ask yourself why you can’t also have nice things…
Why is everyone else having so much success…
And you’re not.
Suddenly…
That little monster inside you just woke up…
It’s ENVY.
This envy leads to…
Anxiety…
Worry…
Regret…
Fear…
And insecurity.
It’s okay for these emotions to arise…
That’s part of being human…
What’s not okay is…
When you keep fueling this negativity and it starts to interfere with how you’re showing up day in and day out.
You can’t let this envy rule your life…
It will only kill your happiness.
Instead…
View envy as your motivation…
Use it as your inspiration…
Choose to see it as a catalyst that fuels your ambition.
Your journey is yours, and yours alone.
Life will take off for you at the perfect time.
Celebrate each of your achievements…
Even the smallest wins…
AND celebrate the success of others…
Genuinely rejoice in their good fortune.
When somebody receives something that you desire…
Be happy for them.
Stop viewing life as a competition…
Joy is not a finite resource.
Let their success be the bit of motivation you need to keep going.
The day you learn to be happy for someone else’s success…
And shift that emotion into one that fuels your ambition in a positive way…
Is the day you take a huge step to overcoming envy once and for all.
Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to never let envy steal your joy)
