You’ve heard of SMART goals, right?
People say to make your goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
This is great advice that I encourage everyone to consider when setting goals.
EXCEPT…
When you start there, you set yourself up for disappointment.
Let it be secondary to a more important question.
Which is…
What do I want to experience?
If your focus is only on outcomes…
You immediately set yourself up for dissatisfaction and unhappiness.
Why?
Because it means you are chasing after something you believe will make you happy.
And in reality…
The outcome is never the source of your happiness.
Your life consists of a series of experiences, not outcomes.
So take the first step in gaining clarity about what you want to experience in 2025…
Then reverse engineer that experience by setting SMART goals that will create those experiences for you.
For example…
Rather than setting a goal of earning $X of income next year…
First establish what you want to experience…
Then set clear financial goals that will allow for you to have that experience.
Be careful not to get too attached to outcomes, my friends.
Stay focused on creating fulfilling, impactful, and joyful experiences for you and your loved ones.
Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to create powerful experiences in 2025)
