Yesterday, I was packing for a keynote I’m doing in Toronto…
And I found myself falling into the same old ridiculous pattern.
I tell myself…
“You’re only going to be there for 2 nights, you don’t need to pack a lot of things.”
Then my mind goes into a hundred “what-if” scenarios that make me pack my suitcase to the point where I can barely close it ?.
And I realized…
The overpacked suitcase physically represents how I’m overpacking my mind.
Think about it…
I don’t really need all the clothes I’m packing for this trip…
Just like I don’t really need all those thoughts swirling around in my head all the time.
The mind LOVES to overthink…
It enjoys considering every “what-if” scenario…
Because it makes it feel SAFE.
If gives it a sense of CONTROL.
It provides it with a sense of COMFORT.
More accurately…
It gives it a FALSE sense of safety, control, and comfort.
Because in reality…
Most of the thoughts are useless, worthless, and unnecessarily disruptive.
Just like this heavy carry-on that I have to drag with me everywhere I go on this trip.
So I decided to unpack the suitcase…
Remove all the clothes…
And pack lighter.
I encourage you to do the same with your own mind.
Unpack it…
Remove the clutter…
And tap into a simpler way of thinking.
Life feels a lot easier when you’re not weighed down by what you don’t need.
Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to unpack the clutter and tap into simplicity)
