What I Learned At The Beach In Aruba

07/21/25

I just came back from a trip to Aruba, where I spent time working on my book.

It was very productive.

I got so much written, and I enjoyed time on the beautiful beaches of Aruba.
One day, when I was looking at the waves crashing on the sand, I felt deeply at peace and connected to the world around me.

It then occurred to me; throughout our lives, THIS is what we’re seeking.

CONNECTION.

I looked over at the other people on the beach, and noticed how some were reaching for their phones.

In those moments, they’re reaching for connection.

A negative thought may have entered their consciousness, or they felt a disruptive emotion, and it caused them to feel disconnected.

So they reached for their phones in hopes of finding connection.

When we drink, binge-watch Netflix, go shopping, seek intimacy, gamble…we’re looking for connection.

Life is simply a series of moments consisting of feeling connected or disconnected.

What’s fascinating about all of this…

Is that connection is not something you can ever establish “out there”.

You can choose to reconnect to your world at any moment.

You just need to pause, be still, be present, and not let your fears or internal dialogue veil the connection that is always available to you.

If you’re feeling stuck, frustrated, or unmotivated…

I encourage you to reconnect, my friends.

Connect to the people in your life.

Connect to your environment.

Connect to your work.

And if your environment is one where you feel it’s not possible to connect with, then please, leave that environment.

Life is too important and meaningful to live in disconnection.

Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to stay connected)
