Seriously?

10/27/25

Last week, I took a flight from Newark to Austin to facilitate an all-day workshop on resilience and time management.

Since I got to the airport a bit late, I didn’t have time to pick up snacks for the flight, so I was really hungry.

I was in the very last row of the plane, sitting in the aisle seat, and I watched as the flight attendant came down the aisle offering snacks to the passengers.

When she got to my row, she asked, “Would you like a snack?”

I smiled, looked her in the eye, and said, “Hi! What do you have?”

She said, “We have pretzels, a caramel waffle, and a cookie.”

I thought for a moment, peered up at her with a big smile, and replied, “I haven’t eaten yet today, so…can I have all three?”

She smiled back and said, “You know, you’re the first passenger on this flight to ask that. Absolutely!”

She handed me all three snacks and walked to the back of the plane.

A few minutes later, I felt a tap on my shoulder; it was the same flight attendant from earlier, and she whispered in my ear.

“Do you want a hamburger or a pizza melt?”

I looked at her with surprise and said, “Seriously?”

She nodded.

“I’ll take a pizza melt, sure. Thank you so much!”

She went to the back, grabbed a warm pizza melt, and covertly handed it to me like it was a drug deal.

I thanked her again, saying how kind that was to offer.

As I was sitting there eating this pizza melt (which was surprisingly good, by the way), I thought about how in life, we have to ask for what we want.

If when the flight attendant offered me a snack, I had replied by just saying yes and taken one snack, I would’ve missed out on getting a free lunch.

I was hungry, and so I asked for what I wanted.

In doing so, I was rewarded.

How often are we simply not asking for what we want?

We go about our days hoping things will get better, but they only improve when we have the courage to stand out and ask for what we want in life.

Don’t wait for things to come to you, my friend.

Whatever you’re after right now…

It’ll only come to you if you ask for it.

Don’t be afraid to ask.

Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to ask for what you want in life)
