Last Monday, I Crashed My Car

Last Monday, I got into a bad car accident.

I was driving to my daughter’s basketball game…

(fortunately, she wasn’t in the car) And while switching lanes there were a few cars stopped in traffic.

I go to hit the brakes and the car does not slow down. I’m not sure if the brakes just gave out or if I hit a patch of ice…

And I smash into the car in front of me. I’m grateful that all of us involved walked away without a scratch on us…

But the car was completely totaled.

It’s a reminder of a few things…

Life Can Change In An Instant

I drive on this highway nearly every day to pick up and drop off my daughter.

On that day, life threw me a curveball.

So while we THINK everything is going to go as planned…

You never really know what tomorrow is going to bring.

Therefore…

Be grateful for everything you have.

While I only lost a car in this incident…

It could have been much worse.

Respond Rather Than React

After the accident, I allowed myself to feel what I felt.

I was angry…

Shook…

Upset…

And all of those emotions needed to pass through me.

Rather than react fueled by emotions…

I felt the emotions as they arose…

And I gave myself a lot of grace.

I went through the steps with my insurance…

Got the car towed…

And now I’m in the process of getting a new car.

So when life throws you these curveballs…

Be sure to allow yourself to feel whatever comes up.

Don’t suppress, avoid, or fight with these emotions.

Feel them.

Consider How This Could Be A Good Thing

How could it ever be a “good thing” to get into a car accident?

Well…

The accident itself of course isn’t a “good thing”.

But what may come after it offers some interesting opportunities.

The car I had was a Honda…

Solid car…

And it would’ve lasted me at least a few more years.

I planned that my next car would be a Tesla.

While I thought that would be years from now…

The universe had other plans lol.

The interesting part about all of this…

Is that just a few weeks ago I re-engaged with leaders at Tesla to discuss Leadership Training for their team.

I’m going to be facilitating a training for Tesla THIS WEEK…

The week I need to get a new car.

Coincidence?

Depends on how you look at it.

How I look at it…

Is that everything happens for a reason.

And therefore…

It’s time for me to finally get a Tesla.

So in the moment when disruption, chaos, or calamity hit…

It’ll feel like everything’s going to hell.

But after processing…

Consider what opportunities this may offer you.

There may be something great coming as a result…

And keep yourself open to that possibility.

Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to flow with life’s disruptions)
