I Had A Breakthrough

08/11/25

In 2023, I was on vacation in Riviera Maya, Mexico, when I had a breakthrough.

Alex and I were lounging on our beach chairs, taking in some sun.

After about 20 minutes, I looked over and noticed that Alex had fallen asleep.

I got bored, so I decided to go for a walk by the ocean.

After a few minutes of walking, ideas started to come to me.

It felt like I was being hit by a tidal wave of creativity and I could barely capture all of the ideas that were swelling up within me.

Ideas for a book…

A keynote…

An interactive workshop…

A TEDx talk…

A new coaching program…

So I ran back to my beach chair and grabbed my journal.

I started writing.

Since that breakthrough, I’ve delivered the keynote I wrote about…

I’ve been selected to deliver my TEDx in September…

And I’ve written the first 16 chapters of my book.

I often think back to that instance and wonder what happened to evoke that breakthrough…

And the formula is quite simple:

1. I was in a safe environment

2. I was out in nature

3. I had no agenda

4. My mind was free

The ideas that came to me had been stirring underneath for quite some time.

The fact that I had no agenda, no plan, and no pressure freed my mind to surface those ideas.

It was as if the lid had been removed, and creative solutions started pouring out.

Since this experience…

I’ve taken multiple trips to evoke similar creativity, with very positive results.

My encouragement to you is to create that space for creative thinking.

Remove yourself from the “day-to-day grind” and allow the mind to wander without any expectations or attachments.

You’ll be amazed at what comes up for you.

Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to free your creativity)
