Alex and I went to see Jon Bellion in concert this past weekend.
We’ve seen him before, and he was excellent.
At one point, he put his hand up and started waving his arm left to right.
Everyone in the stadium, from the front row to the edge of the top floor, was waving their arms in synchrony with Jon.
I was looking around as everyone was so engaged with the performance, seeing all of the happy faces, and I felt something deeply reassuring.
It was another example of what I know to be true.
What we’re all after in life…
Is connection.
As thousands of people were waving their arms side to side, they all felt a deep connection to the music.
They forgot about themselves.
At this concert in Queens, New York, every person in the stadium simultaneously forgot about their fears, worries, goals, hopes, dreams, anxieties, etc.
In that, they found freedom.
After the concert, everyone went their separate ways.
Since the concert, I’m sure they’ve had experiences of disconnection and reconnection.
Moments where they got lost in their own thoughts and felt separate from everyone else and the environment around them…
To moments of reconnecting to others, to purpose, to art, to meaning, to something greater than themselves.
What I hope you take from this is that if connection is what we’re really after in life…
To be intentional about reestablishing that connection each day.
Stop letting your own self-absorbed thoughts consume you to the point where you lose that connection.
You have the power to choose whether you establish that connection or not.
Tap into that power, my friend.
Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to stay connected)
