“You’re overreacting!”
“It wasn’t that bad!”
“It’s really not a big deal!”
“You’re too sensitive!”
Sound familiar?
You’ve been hurt…
Your feelings are being invalidated…
So you start to question yourself…
“Am I being immature?”
“Am I selfish?
“Am I too sensitive?”
The truth is…
Your feelings are valid…always.
If you feel hurt…
Those feelings deserve your attention.
Accept them.
Embrace them.
That’s the only way you can work through it…
And gradually allow the feelings to dissipate.
Don’t look to others to validate your feelings…
Instead…
Validate your own feelings…
So you can move forward without depending on others to do it for you.
You can share your truth…
In sharing with the other person that they are invalidating your feelings…
That their words are hurtful…
But do so with detachment.
In other words…
If their behavior is harmful…
Challenge their behavior…
But do so with kindness and respect…
And without needing them to change their behavior in order for you to be happy.
Remember, it’s YOU who feels hurt…
Not them.
So don’t disregard or minimize your feelings…
And don’t look for validation from others either.
Instead…
Honor your feelings…
Accept them as they are a natural part of the human experience…
And in doing so…
You’ll no longer need anyone’s validation to feel a sense of self-worth.
Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to honor your feelings)
