Over the last year, my fiance Alex and I have taken up tennis.
It’s great exercise…
Something we can do together…
And it makes for fun competition.
(at times it can get intense, but in a good way lol)
One day as we were playing, it hit me…
That tennis is a wonderful metaphor for life.
I hit the ball over the net as best as I possibly can…
And at that point…
I have no control over what happens next.
I have to wait…
Patiently…
For Alex to hit the ball back to me.
I respond only after she swings her tennis racket and the ball is making its way over the net.
I have no idea where she’s going to hit it…
But I need the flexibility to adjust and respond as best as possible.
In life…
We take certain actions and perform to the best of our ability.
After the action is taken…
We must wait for the response.
We need to be prepared for whatever may come our way.
We need to be flexible since whatever may come is completely out of our control.
In tennis…
The player who best adjusts to their opponent and responds skillfully wins the match.
In life…
The person who best adjusts to unpredictable circumstances and responds skillfully has the most success.
So imagine yourself to be the most skilled and adaptable tennis player in the world.
This week…
You’re going to make decisions, take actions, perform to the best of your ability…
And you need to prepare yourself for whatever may come your way.
Be ready…
Be adaptable…
And respond with all of your skills intact.
Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to respond like a world-class tennis pro)
