I’ve never been someone who spends time on Instagram.
But recently…
Since I’ve been more active on the platform posting content…
I’ve watched a few clips that intrigued me.
One was by Simon Sinek…
Where he talks about how when we have our phones either in our hands or on a table when speaking with someone…
We’re subtly saying to the other person…
“You’re not that important to me.”
By having our phones so accessible…
It’s communicating that we’re waiting for someone else to reach out to us that we think is more important.
How does that feel?
To be talking to someone face to face…
And to feel like you’re not that important to them.
After seeing that clip…
I was out with my fiance this weekend for dinner and couldn’t help but notice how many phones were out on the tables.
Some had them sitting on the table…
Others were holding them up to their faces.
What have we come to as a society?
Do we really treat each other this way?
Do we sit with people we say we love…
And always treat them as though they are not that important to us?
I’m not perfect either.
I’ve made this same mistake.
But after watching that video…
I’m going to be even more aware of the placement of my phone during conversations.
I encourage you to do the same.
Life isn’t truly lived on screens.
When you’re with others…
Give them your full attention.
Rooting for you,
Jay (encouraging you to put your phones away)
